Kilmacud Crokes U13 Hurling 2016

Post date: Sep 7, 2016 5:12:16 PM

Well done to the Moycullen U13s who played in terrible wet conditions (just ask Kevin above) on the Saturday of All Ireland weekend and still reached the semi-final of the Kilmacud Crokes competition in Deerpark, Stillorgan. It was an early start departing from An Fuaran at 7am but the boys played their hearts out and came away with wins against Sarsfields (Cork), Faythe Harriets (Wexford) and finally beating the host team Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin) which meant they topped their group & deservedly reached the semi-final stage against none other than Craughwell who beat us in the Shield Final only four days earlier.

Bodies were tired after three tough games but these boys were determined not to give up. After motivating speeches & words of encouragement from their Management team & supporters, the boys took to the field at 2.15pm & were ready for battle!

Unfortunately Craughwell led by three points at half time & although we fought hard & got great scores from frees & play in the second half, the east Galway team held on to win by 3 points in the end & our lads were once again devastated when the final whistle blew. On a positive note, the boys performed extremely well in persistent rain & they showed great displays of skill, agility & sheer determination. Well done lads. As Dave Kearns said as he huddled ye together after the game "Ye did yourselves proud and your club proud".

The Cathaoirleach was on had to lend his support but the Runaí had him when it came to having the full kit (even though we suspect the umbrella might be Caroline's). And before we get an email, we know Caroline's jacket has been placed on extended loan for a very worthy cause and a replacement was not available at short notice.

And in case we forgot to mention it earlier or it may have escaped your attention the conditions were wet, very wet but they kept smiling, even if it is not so easy for the exposed players

A very big day for young guys, first time out in a famous National Tournament on All Ireland weekend, with famous marque clubs and their adult counterparts playing simultaneously in the same tournament.

"School is over! Come on now, John

Time you were getting your kit boots on,

Time you were wielding a helm and a hurl,

Time ye were on your ways

Time you were learning a hurler's job

and earning a hirler's praise"

(with apologies to Ewan McCall)

Great day had by everyone by all accounts. Well done!
