After the heady heights (and for some very heady heights) of All Ireland fever and subsequent plunge to reality, Galway hurling returns to bread and butter action this weekend as Senior Championship and Senior Shield action resumes this weekend. The Championship has a double header in Ballinasloe on Saturday (Loughrea v Mullagh; Gort v Padraig Pearses) and another double header in Athenry on Sunday (St. Thomas' v Castlegar; Portumna v Turloughmore). Dedicated supporters from Máigh Cuilinn will be in plenty of time for Athenry, if they wish, as their Shield quarter final against Tynagh Abbey Duniry is scheduled for noon in Carnmore. The Senior team are buoyed by the All Ireland 11s success and numbers at training have been good. This weekend will tell how attractive a Senior trophy and a place on the undercard on County Final day will prove for the teams who have exited the Championship proper.

Indeed, it is knockout hurling for everyone from here on in, as the Junior C1 await Sunday's quarter final draw with the game likely to proceed on the following weekend. The Minor B1 Final against Sarsfields is now likely to take place on the October Bank Holiday weekend
