The 2016 Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging U13A Hurling Championship commenced in 14th June. After disappointing defeats to Clarenbridge, Athenry, Turloughmore, Carnmore, Sarsfields and Craughwell, this determined Moycullen team opened a window of opportunity in the championship when they showed true determination & character in their away game to top of the table Loughrea with only a single point separating the teams at the final whistle.

This narrow defeat gave the lads great confidence as they headed into the shield semi-final against Athenry in their home pitch on Thursday 18th August and an excellent overall team performance resulted in a victory for our Moycullen lads with a finishing scoreline of 0-11 to 1-6.

The win was undoubtedly well deserved as these hard working players never give up no matter what and they justifiably reached a place in the Shield final which is scheduled to take place at 7.15pm tomorrow (Tuesday) in Kenny Park, Athenry against Craughwell. All support greatly welcome.

At the time of writing this article, this underage team are also preparing to compete in the “Tostal na nGrasai” AIB U13 Hurling “Elevens” Competition which is organised and hosted by Kilmacud Crokes on 3rd September (the eve of the 2016 All-Ireland Final).

We would like to wish these young players, their management team and mentors the very best of luck in all upcoming competitions.
