Minors give hard pressed supporters a lift

Minor's victory on Easter Monday brought an otherwise sobering weekend for supporters to a more positive end. Having experienced defeat in Carnmore on Thursday and Friday, defeat in Cappataggle on Saturday morning for the U14s in Cappataggle and at home for the Juniors, a fruitless early morning trip to Woodford on Sunday, the avid supporter was badly on need of a lift.

Founded on a very solid full back line, with Conor Kyne masterful at centre ably assisted by Killian Mullarkey and James Donohue, goalkeeper Eanna Kelehan had little to do despite a lot of ball landing in front of him. At centre back Eanna Malone worked really hard to turn around ball and launch the attacks. Ronan Higgins and James Wynne were solid on the flanks and they needed to be. James even found himself in the corner forward position on the wrong wing and helped himself to a point. Kevin Donovan and Padraic Kilduff kept the engine purring at midfield, Kevin chipping in with four points. Quite a bit of ball funnelled through Jack Kelly at centre forward who picked up a point in each half. A good return for Lairgnen Mc Dermott at wing forward, with goals in either half and point chaser to go with each, helped ease tension and with Ryan Fox (0-1), Aodhan Claffey and Paul Wynne coming on for Colin Keeler, Kurtis Kyne and Fintan Kelly respectively, it points to a depth of talent which will all be sorely needed as the season progresses. Team needs to keep discipline and work on free taking though as hard work by the likes of Andrew Hurney and Ryan Fox was not converted, still much to admire in the smart inter-play that yielded great points from play. A solid start to Minor 2012!
