Village Cleanup on Easter Saturday

Post date: Mar 27, 2013 5:44:32 PM

Just as they did very successfully in 2011, the Juvenile Committee are organising a village clean-up on Easter Saturday. Supervised crews of young hurlers will be working on collecting rubbish from the main routes into the village. The exercise makes a contribution to keeping the village looking tidy as well as instilling social responsibility in our youth members.

The committee has obtained a permit for a bucket collection in the village itself, through which the public can show it appreciation and support the activities of the underage section. Crews and rota have been organised but many hands make light work and there is a considerable area to cover in the cleanup. Those wishing to help should contact Aodh Davoren or Ann Marie Walsh. Alternatively they can present themselves in An Fuarán on Saturday at 11am, 1pm or 3pm to take part in one of the shifts. All those taking part are advised to bring a high visability vest and work gloves although some spare vests and gloves may be available on the day.

While there is much talk about emigration, we should also mention that the club is lucky enough to have players returning in recent months. Tommy Newell has been home since before Christmas, While Robert Callaghan and David Kearns have not returned to Oz and are training away. Eanna Noone is back from New York with a firm eye on the Senior Championship, while the most recent arrivals from opposite ends of Canada have been Sean Callaghan and Dan Kelly.

The Minors begin their Championship campaign in the B division on Easter Monday (5pm) in Ahascragh against the home side. They had their second workout of the year in An Spidéal on Sunday when taking on a strong Cois Fharraige selection (Bearna/Na Forbacha-An Spidéal-Michéal Breathnach). Without five or more regulars, they had a difficult evening but it was a useful workout for the full squad.
