Trip to Limerick only bright spark in damp weekend

The U21B Championship game on Saturday. was a classic counter attack mauling from Killimor while the Magh Cuilinn attack toiled and was frustrated by massed ranks (the first two shot for goals were ours and beaten away by defenders in front of goal), the Killimor full forward line with the freedom of everything inside the 45m line ran riot scoring 4-01 from nine opportunities in the first ten minutes while Mágh Cuilinn converted 0-1 from 7. Mágh Cuilinn did recover somewhat to record four unanswered points before Killimor scored the final point of the half to leave the score at halftime 4-02 to 0-05. The balance of play in the earlier part of the second half was even with both sides eeking out 3 points each, Killimor with greater economy. When a ball dropped in the square uncontested a fifth goal came from the resultant scramble. All the cause was now futile, Mágh Cuilinn fought to recover some pride, but increasing resorted to trying for goals and covering back grew sparser resulting in a 3-06 to 0-02 mismatch in the final minutes. The second round comes up immediately with Sarsfields in Craughwell at 5pm on Saturday.

Our u14s game against Tommie Larkins was not played.

Our U11s went to Na Piarsigh to test the opposition in Limerick this time. Just like their u12 counterparts the previous week, they were not found wanting and were well matched with their Limerick opponents. They took in the Limerick/Galway game Galway put in an impressive performance to comfortable book ar semi-final spot against Kilkenny in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday 20th April at 2.30pm. The group were lucky enough to meet some of the players at Supermac's in Gort on the way home. Captain Davis Burke and Jonathan Glynn as well as their old friend from the Centre Fun Day last year, David Collins. They made a valiant attempt to convince another Galway star to come home with them in the Gaelic Grounds but they had to be satisfied with a post match chat. See U11 pageThe opening game in the u16 Championship in Ballymacward against Pearses was the closest game of the weekend. Mágh Cuilinn faced into a stiff breeze and could be satisfied with the 0-06 to 0-03 deficit at half time, especially not conceding any goals although maybe a little disappointed not to have converted a few goal chances of their own. Most of the first half scores came from frees with Sean Barrett converting two and Daire Davoren the other. It was Pearses who extended their lead by two point early in the second half but a goal from Joseph Lydon brought Mágh Cuilinn right back into it. Mágh Cuilinn added two points to draw level but some poorly conceded frees allowed Pearses to edge three points ahead again. Mágh Cuilinn always looked the more likely to score goals but following a defensive mixup it was Pearses who scored it. Mágh Cuilinn continued to attack and Joseph Lydon scored a second goal to reduce the deficit to three points again. Time was running out and an free for overcarrying gave Pearses the opportunity for an insurance point. In the final minutes, Ciarán Scully drew a magnificent save from the Pearses keeper with his point blank shot. Had it gone in there might have been one final chance to snatch an equaliser. However it was not to be and the when the resultant 65m was defended the final whistle blew. Final score 1-12 to 2-05. The players get an immediate opportunity to get a better result when Ballygar visit on Thursday evening at 6.30pm.

The Intermediate team's trip to Abbeyknockmoy in the League early on Sunday was equally fruitless. Abbeyknockmoy won comfortably by a score of 2-19 to 2-08.
