Ballinderreeen 3-19 Mágh Cuilinn 3-05

Our U16 team had a challenge game against Ballinderreen away on Sunday last. Both teams had difficulty with numbers with the U14 Championship running in parallel. With Ballinderreen having only13 available, the teams played 13 a side. As well as any U14 contingent, Mágh Cuilinn were missing 3 of their 16 year old and a 15 year old who were involved in other sports and even though Ballinderreen proved not to be the biggest side physically these older players were missed.

Ballinderreen proved adept at point scoring and their pacey centre forward and corner forward made full use of the extra space on offer. With a stiff breeze, Ballindereen rattled of a succession of points but a Sean Barrett goal had Mágh Cuilinn in touch playing against a stiff breeze. However a late goal in reply stretched the half time lead to 1-12 as against 1-02 with Daire Davoren and Shane Clancy adding the points.

Although, Ballinderreen scored the first point of the second half, a goal from Ceillan Leonard and another point from Daire Davoren had the visitors back in contention. They could not add more scores during a rare period of dominance and Ballinderreen gradually restored their halftime margin. Another goal from Ceillan Leonard and further points from Joe Lydon hinted at a comeback but Ballinderreen continued to notch points and in truth brought the best out of Aaron Connell in goal on several occasions. In the final minutes, Mágh Cuilinn finally yielded two goals as their effort tired.

Ballinderreen will play in the division above Magh Cuilinn in 2014
