Unique Opportunity for Seniors on Saturday

Máigh Cuilinn take on County Champions, Gort on Saturday in Athenry at 3.30pm. For CIMC it is do or die in terms of championship survival as the defeat to Tommie Larkins in the first Group game means there can be no further slip ups. Gort overcame a dooged Pearses side with some difficulty in their first game and so still have some margin of error. It is a unique opportunity for Máigh Cuilinn to deliver a first Championship defeat to the 2011 Galway Senior Hurling Champions.

Máigh Cuilinn enjoyed a timely first Senior win on June Bank Holiday Monday in an away challenge game against Clare Senior team, Clooney/Quin. There were a few encouraging aspects, a scoring total of 2-19, seven forwards scoring and the season debut for Philly Lydon, following injury. Máigh Cuilinn were without several players, including Pat Lydon, Richie Devaney, Michael Darcy, Robert Molloy, Gary Bohan, Paul Burke, Eanna Malone and David Faherty. Unfortunately Pat, Gary and Robert are likely to be on the long term injury list. The display and the manner of it were more in the spirit of last year's exploits.

The Junior team also begin their Championship campaign this weekend with a fixture ins Na Forbacha against Bearna/Na Forbacha at 7.30pm on Friday. CIMC juniors also had the boost of a win this week with a comfortable win over An Spidéal at Baile Doite in the City League. Goals from Richard Neylon, Michael Dempsey and Kevin O'Donovan and three point or more contributions from Morgan Darcy, Conor Kyne and Shane Barrett.
