June has passed, July is here

After the highs of May and our U14 win, early June was proved a disappointing period. Holidays and exams are the order of the day and they certainly had an impact on the early fixtures. A depleted U13 panel fell to defeat against Meelick Eyrecourt and Ardrahan. They bounced back to record an impressive 6-05 to 0-04 points in Loughrea. They are playing in the A1 championship and therefore compete with top 16 teams in the county. U13 travel to Killimordaly on Wednesday and host Sarsfields next Monday needing one point to secure a semi final place. Both opponents are undefeated thus far. See U13 page

The evening previous to that Loughrea Mágh Cuilinn had a 1-19 to 0-10 win in the Intermediate League vs Rahoon-Newcastle in Pairc Mágh Cuilinn on Tuesday night. Both sides were short several regulars but the quality of play from Mágh Cuilinn was impressive.

Despite the Board's cancellation of the previous week's U16 fixtures due to Minor fixtures the following night the Minor B Hurling Championship game vs Michael Cusacks was not played. Cumann Iomanaiocht Maigh Cuilinn were left had a glut of fixtures starting with U16 on Wed 25th against Annaghdown. After leading throughout the U16's faded to allow Annaghdown to score 1-02 in the final minutes to snatch a two point victory 1-11 to 2-10. On Monday night, needing to win to keep hope alive, the U16's took on Ballygar and played outstanding hurling and although leading 1-10 to 0-02 they should have had at least three more goals. In second half, Ballygar were much more competitive and even dominant for long periods. In contrast to the first half, Mágh Cuilinn scored 2-04 from far fewer opportunities. Ballygar struggled to add goals to their impressive points tally. Having used all their substitutes two late goals provided an anxious couple of minutes in a 3-14 to 2-13 win. U16's travel to Carnmore on Thursday to force a playoff for a semi final spot. A win will secure top spot for Carnmore so it is a tough assignment see U16 page

Three of the U16 panel were on hand for the Minor B in Killimordaly on the night after U16 against Annaghdown. The refixed game from the previous no show referee fixture started badly, having matched Killimordaly's first goal our Minors needed to recover as two goals either side of halftime left them with an 11 point mountain to climb. They delivered an exhibition in point scoring but the all important goal that was needed eluded them and they lost 3-13 to 1-15 . The Minor fixd for Tues vs Oranmore Maree has been postponed due Championship football on Wednesday but the deferred Michael Cusack's game is likely to be played on Sunday evening. and U16 in Carnmore on Thurs 3rd July.

On Sunday 22nd our Juniors had their first Championship game in a month but a severely depleted selection went down to a heavy defeat to Oranmore/Maree. On Friday in Carnmore a fuller squad took the field against Pearses. A slow start compounded by a second yellow card before halftime for Michael Hurney meant the game was always an uphill struggle. The 14 men reduced the margin from 8 to 5 points and held Pearses scoreless for a long period of the second half but the team tired late on and Pearses ran out comfortable winners 2-15 to 0-07.

While the u16's were struggling against Annaghdown, on the next pitch the U12s were giving the present Carnmore U12 group their first ever experience of defeat in all competitions by the same margin. The U12s have a strong record with wins previously against Turloughmore and Salthill/Knocknacarra See U12 page

Such are our numbers that we have a distinct U11 team and in preparation for next year's u12, they play a Clara selection on the way to Tullamore last Saturday.
