When you are talking about a card driveRemember, remember the fifth of November!!! It was certainly a memorable night's craic for the 81 participants in the Cumann Iománaíochta Mháigh Cuilinn reboot of card drives so popular with Moycullen's GAA clubs in the sixties and seventies. 27 teams of three competed in nine tables of nine played until they were all whittled down to one. As Saturday approached the final sat down to do battle with a deal of interested spectators remaining. In the end, despite the cosmopolitan flavour of the attendance the triumphant trio had a very local flavour. Mickey Lee, a veteran of that earlier golden age of 25 and proud wearer of the white sash, led and was ably assisted by his youthful teamates, both with equally distinguished green and white service, Barry O'Sullivan and Ronan Faherty. The event was organised by the club's Juvenile Committee in support of underage hurling. Thanks to all those who came to play, from Killanin to An Cheathrú Rua and points in between, a well organised night which achieved a capacity attendance with minimum publicity. Well done to the Committee, Aodh and Ann Marie in particular and Patricia Folan, who brought a deal of expertise to the organisation of "nines". There was a lot on offer as spot prizes apart from the main prize thanks to the generosity of the many contributors and as usual there was also similar level of food and refreshment on hand to keep the card players sustained into the night.
