CIMC Seniors attempt to rebuild

Mágh Cuilinn are attempting to put the debacle of the crushing defeat to Gort behind as they look to complete their Championship group programme against Pearses sometime in the middle of July. Pearses surprise 8 point victory over Tommy Larkins means that the final round of games in the group are significant. Gort's massive points difference would require both Tommie Larkins and Padraig Pearses to win by a 21 point margin for Gort not to qualify. In the event of both winning Tommies now need to win by a margin 3 points greater against the County Champions; a tall order. Mágh Cuilinn are not actually mathematically out of the Championship as 25 point wins for both they and Gort would see them through to the quarter finals. The side did resume action with a City League tie against Ballinderreen last Tuesday after a week of football championship exit and a crucial relegation playoff derby, with seven of the side and others that faced Gort unavailable. A slow start left a formidable six point lead to break down and although Mágh Cuilinn dominated the second half the margin was only cut to three points 14 to 11 at the end. While the return from frees improved and shot conversion improved, it still fell way short of what is required at Senior level.
