U14B Championship – 2014
Round 7 (final Group match) – 05/05/2014
Moycullen 4:05 – Carnmore 0:01
After an exciting Feile Na nGael weekend and being pipped by a mere point in extra time of the semi final vs. Tommy Larkin’s it was back to Championship business and an away fixture to Carnmore.
With Moycullen on 8pts out of possible 12pts there was no guarantee that they had qualified for the Cup semi final position so a win against Carnmore was important to galvanise a top 4 placing.
A firm cross wind favoured neither team and Moycullen played into the Monivea road end for the first half. After 1min Moycullen registered the first score with a point from Alan Carr from a 50m free. In fact Carr continued his exhibitions of long range free taking the entire evening. After 3min Sean O’Seoige found space inside the 20m line and riffled the sliotar to the Carnmore net. Two minutes later Fionn McDonagh made a weaving run from 60m on the left wing to see his shot just tail wide. Seoige was on fire and found the net on 9min to put Moycullen firmly in the driving seat. On 13min a delivery down the right wing was collected by Cillian Davoren who made space to drill the sliotar across the goal where Seoige was waiting to finish to the net for his third goal. On 16min Carnmore were awarded a free on the 20m when Jamie Cox shouldered fairly but the referee judged to have been a foul. With 2min left in the first half Evan Kenny scored a fine point from running play almost 40m from the Carnmore goal. On the final minute of the half Niall Fitzgerald delivered a clinical pass to Seoige who struck between the posts to leave his first half tally of 3 goals and 1 point. On the half time whistle Moycullen were in full control with a score of 3:03 – 0:01.
Moycullen unchanged for the 2nd half continued their dominance by opening the scoring with a pointed free from Carr from 45m. On 24min Cillian Clancy was called upon to made a save from close range. 2min later Davoren found himself at the end of long delivery and finished with a goal. Moycullen emptied the bench introducing 5 substitutions over the next 4min. With 9min of normal time remaining Moycullen were awarded a free from 45m, Carr stepped up and neatly struck between the posts. The Moycullen defence were very solid throughout conceding only 1 point and keeping the opposition scoreless from play. On the final whistle Moycullen had secured an important win on the last game of the group and now topped the table with Gort with 10points each. Tommy Larkin’s & Ahascragh Fohenagh on 9pts each.
Moycullen were drawn against Tommy Larkin’s in the semi Final which will be played on Thursday 15th May 2014 (Venue TBC). After the semi final defeat in the Feile Na nGael Moycullen will be keen to take the spoils in the Championship semi final vs. Larkin’s – payback would be sweet! Please come out and support these young lads on their road for the County crown.
