The Cumann Iomanaíocht Máigh Cuilinn Golf AmAm took place on Friday 28th October at Oughterard Golf Club. In truth the event started on Thursday as 5 teams anxious to take part but unable to play on Friday took to the course between 1 and 2pm. In all 42 teams were entered with 40 teams actually teeing off, the firat on Friday at 8.38am.
The teams on Thursday and those teeing off earlier on Friday had the best of the conditions but thankfully only the last couple of teams endured really difficult conditions in the last couple of holes. Prizes were available for nine teams but it was surprising that when the scores were added there was so little between the teams. The winners only prevailed on the basis of having a better back nine with both first and second having a score of 54.9 and the third prizewinners scoring 55.
The prizes were presented Club Cathaoirleach, Kenneth Fox, who thanked all the participants for their valuable support and goodwill, the staff and management of Oughterard Golf Course, in particular, the grounds team who had the course in excellent condition despite heavy rainfall, the catering staff, who kept a constant stream of food and refreshments throughout the day. He also tanked the many generous tee box sponsors, who really helped make the fundraising side of the event a success but he declared that he would gladly part with all of that if only the County title could be landed on Sunday. A special word of thanks was reserved for Michael Darcy, who was the principal organiser of the event as he has been on several previous occasions and without whom the event would not have been possible.
Paraic Conroy a member of the winning team but also a former player thanked the CIMC and expresed the wishes of all for success on Sunday,
